TRYING TO QUIT SMOKING!!! NON SMOKERS PLEASE HELP OR PEOPLE WHO HAVE QUIT?
I am 18 and been smoking for 5 years. For the last year i have probably been on 30 per day (roll ups) I have started taking champix about 11 days ago and i am now on about 5 per day and tomorrow is my quit date!!! Just wanted to know what your opinion of smoking is and how i will feel about it when i quit as i am worried that everyday for the rest of my life i will be thinging about a fag.
If you dont smoke do you find it discusting?
Any tips on quitting?

How to quit daydreaming and stop regretting?
I know they are both different, but I relate them my own way. I need advice on how to quit daydreaming because it's taking over my life, as I do nothing but daydreaming night and day, also how to stop looking at the past and regretting things I did or didn't do. Nicotine has no direct effect on the o2 carrying capacity. Along with the smoke you inhale is carbon monoxide which does have a direct effect as it takes up hemeglobin molecules which are supposed to used for o2. Nicotine is an irritant to the bronchial mucosa which results in bronchitis. Smoke long enough and it will become chronic bronchitis and then emphysema. Once you have emphysema then you start to loose alveoli and that effects how well your lungs can absorb o2 into the pulmonary capillaries.
Nicotine is absorbed through the bronchial mucosa into the blood stream where it eventually reaches the brain's pleasure center. This is what makes it addictive just like any other drug.

How to quit smoking when you smoke a low amount?
I had a baby in October 2008. I didn't smoke while pregnant. I have found myself smoking 1-5 cigarettes a day and can't seem to quit..Any tips for quitting completely?
That first responder was obviously high while writing his response....
Anyways, what helped or worked for me was smoking cheaper smokes that taste real bad. I could only handle to light it and then put it out. Averaging about 1-2 smokes per day. It was a re-light festival until I finally decided I just didn't want it anymore. That was after 24 years of smoking and a whole lot more per day than you too so you may see quicker results. A whole lot of it is mind set too. Good Luck

If I want to quit smoking can I be around people who smoke?
I think I can handle the temptation, but is it possible to quit while constantly around others who smoke? Would the second hand smoke keep the nicotine in my system?
It wouldn't be wise to hang around friends who smoke or even travel routes that you used to smoke on, because the situation will increase the temptation more than you can imagine. The same advice is given to recovering heroine addicts; they are advised to travel different routes and hang out with clean friends as to avoid relapsing. But it is quite possible to quit in the company of smokers, I did it.

Nicocure Quit Smoking Patch: Does the Nicocure Patch Really Eliminate Nicotine Withdrawal Cravings
Many smokers have a deep desire to quit but they consistently fail because of the dreaded nicotine withdrawal symptoms. Once these symptoms become unbearable, the smoker trying to quit will reach for their cigarettes and once this happens, they may well end up at square one. There are numerous quit smoking products available that all make huge claims to help a smoker quit but few have the ability to relieve the nicotine withdrawal symptoms. Varenicline Stop Smoking Pill
A Pfizer drug shown to help more than one in five smokers stop smoking received federal approval on Thursday, adding another option to the limited pool of effective stop-smoking prescription medicines.
Varenicline is only the second nicotine-free smoking cessation drug to gain FDA approval. Pfizer Inc. plans to market the twice-daily tablet as Chantix stop smoking pill.
Varenicline works in two ways, by cutting the pleasure of smoking and reducing the withdrawal symptoms that lead smokers to light up cigaret again.
Most other stop-smoking pills are various nicotine-replacement therapies, sold by prescription and over the counter in gum, patch, lozenge, nasal spray or inhaler form. In 1997, the FDA approved bupropion, an antidepressant already sold as Wellbutrin but rebranded it as Zyban, an anti-smoking drug.
The approved course of Chantix pill treatment is 12 weeks, a period that can be doubled in patients who successfully stop to increase the likelihood they will remain smoke-free, the Food and Drug Administration said.
Other clinical trials show the drug's effect is more pronounced in the short-term: 44 percent of patients quit smoking following a 12-week course of treatment with Chantix, compared to the 30 percent of Zyban patients who quit, according to Pfizer. However, smoking cessation experts said the longer-term data are more applicable, given the difficulty of quitting the habit for good.
"It's not going to be a revolution, it's going to be a substantial step forward," Thomas Glynn, director of cancer science and trends at the American Cancer Society, said of varenicline. Glynn added that the greatest value will be for smokers who have tried Zyban or nicotine-replacement therapy but failed to quit.
"My bet is that it will work as well as they do and, from the look of things, a little bit better," he said.
Varenicline latches on to the same receptors in the brain that nicotine binds to when inhaled in cigarette smoke, an action that leads to the release of dopamine in the pleasure centers of the brain. Taking the drug blocks any inhaled nicotine from reinforcing that effect.
The drug also slows the release of dopamine, which cuts the craving to smoke that occurs when nicotine's effect wears off, said Pfizer research chemist Jotham Coe, who invented the drug.
"It's a shield and at the same time, it stabilizes you and prevents you from having the lows, which lead to craving and withdrawal, but at the same time, it shields you from the highs," said Coe, a former 2 1/2 pack-a-day smoker who quit smoking a first time cold turkey and then a second time with the help of nicotine gum.
One in five American adults, or nearly 45 million people, smoke. An estimated 32 million of those smokers would like to quit, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Smoking kills nearly 440,000 Americans a year.
"Tobacco use, particularly cigarette smoking, is the single most preventable cause of death in the United States and is responsible for a growing list of cancers, as well as chronic diseases including those of the lung and heart," said Dr. Scott Gottlieb, the FDA's Deputy Commissioner for Medical and Scientific Affairs.
Quitting, as any smoker will tell you, isn't easy. Fewer than one in 20 smokers can do so without help, Schroeder said. With help, whether it's a drug, counseling or both, the success rate rises at most to roughly one in five, he added.
Both the FDA and European regulators recently shot down attempts by Sanofi-Aventis to gain approval for rimonabant, or Accomplia, as a stop-smoking aid. Both have recommended that the drug, which blocks the same pleasure centers in the body activated when pot smokers get the munchies, be approved for weight loss.
And at least two vaccines are being developed that could block nicotine from ever reaching the brain.
The FDA does not recommend that Chantix be used with other smoking-cessation products. Its most common side effect is nausea.

Why Quit Smoking Patches Don't Work
There are many ways to stop smoking these days, and most of them involve a form of nicotine replacement. The nicotine patch is the most popular form of smoking cessation available on the market today and it has certainly worked for a great many people. But, considering the high price of the patch, you are making an expensive gamble when you buy quit smoking patches because the chances are much less than fifty percent that they will work for you.
If you have never used or even seen quit smoking patches, they are transdermal patches. This means that they transmit drugs through the surface of your skin into your bloodstream through a small patch that looks like a large bandage. They use a light adhesive to keep the patch in place and they are kept on for anything from eight hours to an entire day. You can swim and shower with them on, and they will keep sending nicotine through your blood.
The theory behind these patches is that the nicotine that they give you takes the place of the nicotine you would get in a cigarette. But, many people misuse them. They will buy quit smoking patches to wear on long flights, to take the place of smoking. They will use them at work, and then take them off as soon as the work day is over and light up.
The real problem with quit smoking patches is that although they do replace the nicotine you would get from cigarettes, they do not replace the cigarette itself. They are no replacement for the ceremony that is tapping your pack of cigarettes, sliding one out, putting it in your mouth, lighting it, sucking on it, and feeling the wonderful feeling of the smoke going into your lungs. Patches don't give you that enjoyment.
In fact, no quit smoking method will replace the enjoyment that you feel when you light up that first cigarette of the day, or the one you have after a long time without one. That is a feeling that non-smokers can never understand. So, if you are going to quit smoking, you really have to do more than just contain your nicotine cravings. You have to change your life completely so that you can live without the feel, the touch, the smell, and the excitement that is a cigarette. If you can do that, then you can quit for the rest of your life.
