Ways To Stop Smoking - Why Some Of Them Work And Why Some Do Not
For some reason, nicotine replacement therapy has become one of the most popular ways to stop smoking in the world today. The main principle of this method is to replace the addictive ingredient in the cigarettes, i.e. nicotine with an agent that is less harmful and less addictive. Naturally, the replaced substance must be similar to nicotine in taste, or it would not be an ideal replacement at all.
In most cases, the Indian tobacco, i.e. lobelia is used. Indians have been smoking beedis (i.e. herbal cigarettes with lobelia wrapped in betel leaves) for centuries, without any addiction. Also, these herbal cigarettes do not contain any tar. Nicotine replacement therapy uses several products such as lozenges, gums, cigarettes, patches, etc. with substances similar to nicotine.
The main intention of the substances used in all kinds of nicotine replacement therapy is certainly to gradually wean away the person from the addiction and protect him or her from pumping dangerous tar and carbon monoxide in the body. They have attained a degree of success and popularity too, and indeed doctors have also been prescribing these methods for hardened smokers.
But the fact remains that with nicotine replacement therapies, the person is not actually kept away from nicotine. In some cases - such as the nicotine patches - nicotine itself could be used in the therapy. If that is done, then the person does not really get deaddicted at all. Tar is prevented from entering the body, but the addiction to nicotine could persist. There is a very high chance that the person may revert to active smoking as soon as he or she stops using the nicotine patch.
In short, a person on a nicotine patch may have to wear it for life. Then there are other problems too. Nicotine patches can cause irritation of the skin. That could be a reason why its use could be discontinued. Some people have also experienced nightmares and vivid dreams when on the nicotine patch. So, it is not guaranteed that nicotine patches and nicotine replacement therapies may actually work.
Even medications cannot be considered as very effective ways to stop smoking. All medications that are used for smoke cessation nowadays, such as buproprion and varenicline, are nothing more than antidepressants. These medications would help smokers to resolve their anxiety pangs that occur when they are giving up smoking, but they do not actively dissuade the person from smoking. Also, they cannot repair the organs already damaged by the smoke. Doctors would not recommend antidepressants to everybody because several conditions of the body may make their use dangerous. Old people and pregnant women, for example, must not take antidepressants at all.
With such disfavor for most smoke cessation methods that exist today, the herbal remedies are making their presence felt as effective ways to stop smoking. These are made from natural herbs, which do not have side-effects on the body, and can be used by most people, even with health conditions. Herbal remedies wean people away from their addiction and also repair the damage that has been caused in their body due to long years of smoking.
Several herbal ways to stop smoking are popular today, like the SmokeRX, which is a kit of herbal supplements aimed at bringing results within as less as seven days. How to Quit Smoking
There is no getting around it: nicotine is one of the most addictive, harmful and widely available drugs in the world. Although responsible for around 440,000 deaths each year, cigarettes and tobacco related products can be purchased at almost every corner store, supermarket, or liquor store in the country.
Nicotine
Nicotine is a drug found naturally in tobacco. It is highly addictive -- as addictive as heroin or cocaine. Over time, a person becomes physically and emotionally addicted to, or dependent on, nicotine. Studies have shown that smokers must deal with both the physical and psychological dependence to be successful at quitting and staying quit.
Start with some pre-preparation by ensuring that you really do want to quit smoking and understanding why you smoke. Are these reasons powerful enough to motivate you when you are faced with those tricky situations? Write down your reasons for quitting. You may want to take a look at some of the benefits of quitting.
Set yourself a date for quitting. Try and choose a date that will be stress free but when you can find plenty to do to keep yourself busy. Try and set a date within about two weeks of reading this.
Ask your doctor for advice. This is especially important if you have health problems or are concerned about issues such as weight gain.
Hurting Others
Smoking harms not just the smoker, but also family members, coworkers, and others who breathe the smoker's cigarette smoke, called secondhand smoke or passive smoke. Among infants up to 18 months of age, secondhand smoke is associated with as many as 300,000 cases of bronchitis and pneumonia each year. In addition, secondhand smoke from a parent's cigarette increases a child's chances for middle ear problems, causes coughing and wheezing, worsens asthma, and increases an infant's risk of dying from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).
Methods to help you give up
Whilst Cold Turkey is the most popular method to quit smoking, only 3% of people succeed using this method. Other treatment options to stop smoking are available and you can find information about these methods on this site. Remember, for the best advice on how to stop smoking, there's few substitutes as good as seeing your doctor to discuss the full range of options available to you. If you're stuck about what to say, try our conversation starter.
Consider using nicotine gum, patches, spray or other pharmacologic therapies. Nicotine is the drug that is in tobacco. You can use nicotine patches, lozenges or gum, available without a prescription at your local pharmacy, to quit smoking. It is a two-step process. First, you learn to live without smoking, but not without nicotine. On your quit day, you discontinue smoking and start using the patches or gum. Then you slowly cut back on the nicotine over 6 - 8 weeks.
Zyban and Chantix are prescription medications that can be used to help you quit smoking. Both medications should be started about 7 - 10 days before your quit date. Ask your primary care physician about using either of these medications to help you with quitting.
Join a quit-smoking program. You may prefer to be involved in an organized quit-smoking program while you are using the patches, gum, Zyban, or Chantix. None of the nicotine replacement products, Zyban, or Chantix are a miracle cure. You still need to learn to live without cigarettes in your daily life. Your personal decision to quit smoking combined with learning the skills to be smoke-free can help you be successful. Some people do better in a formal class with a set of instructions to follow. Group support is another reason to consider a formal quit smoking program. Others quitting at the same time provide support and encouragement for each other. Remember, the aim is to quit smoking. It does not matter how you do it.

Smoking Tobacco Kills but Smoking Electronic Cigarettes Doesn’t
If you smoke tobacco, then you will agree with me that it has over 4000 chemicals which are harmful to your health, it also has poisons like hydrogen cynide which are harmful to your health.
However there has been an introduction of a safe cigarette known as electronic cigarette. The cigarette contains none of the harmful chemicals and is much friendly to the environment; it's also important to note that tobacco has been proven to cause lung cancer among other deadly diseases to its users; electronic cigarettes on the other hand don’t contain any chemical which can cause the cancer in your body. This defines clearly well that tobacco is more harmful to your health as compared to electronic cigarettes which are friendlier, and safe.
Electronic cigarettes, better referred to as e-cigarettes, contain a small amount of nicotine which only surrounds the smoking ban, tobacco on the other hand has a large content of tar and nicotine plus the many chemicals which cause nothing less than destroy your health.
What is exciting about e-cigarettes is that it tastes, feels and looks like ea cigarette but offers so much more than tobacco. In addition to that, is that the harmful components produced by the combustion of tobacco are not found in e-cigarettes.
In fact, within the first 7 days of smoking e-cigarettes, your sense of smell and taste will have changed, much surprisingly, at the end of the first day, your body will start repairing itself, you will feel a great relieve in your lungs, what your doing is inhaling water vapor which has no harm to your health, not at all.
Smoke from electronic cigarettes are less smelly and do not affect the people around you, just like tobacco do. It has no carbon monoxide which can be harmful to your brain and also can leave you feeling drowsy.
Nicotine from tobacco is extremely risky especially pregnant women, those breastfeeding or those people with unstable heart conditions, the probability of causing major complications or even death is high e-cigarettes on the hand cause less irregularities though it is always to recommended that you seek medical advice before you start using e-cig,especially when you have such complications.
The product is basically a thousand times safer than tobacco, it is legal and can be taken at any other place, pubs, restaurants, public places, name them.
It is also important to note that tobacco blocks free flow of blood to various parts of the body which is equally risky and has in the past caused many deaths. This is just one of the e many harmful effects of tobacco. Electronic cigarettes retain the normal functioning of your body, which include proper flow of blood to various parts of the body.
Lung cancer is one disease caused by tobacco smoking, but it also causes other cancers and illnesses. Close to 42,800 people die from tobacco related illnesses each year, 29,100 die from chronic lung disease mostly caused by tobacco smoking.
It plays safe enough to consider electronic cigarettes as a better way of staying healthy.
