how does smoking nicotine reduce the oxygen capacity in the blood?

effects of smoking in terms of nicotine

Nicotine has no direct effect on the o2 carrying capacity. Along with the smoke you inhale is carbon monoxide which does have a direct effect as it takes up hemeglobin molecules which are supposed to used for o2. Nicotine is an irritant to the bronchial mucosa which results in bronchitis. Smoke long enough and it will become chronic bronchitis and then emphysema. Once you have emphysema then you start to loose alveoli and that effects how well your lungs can absorb o2 into the pulmonary capillaries.
Nicotine is absorbed through the bronchial mucosa into the blood stream where it eventually reaches the brain’s pleasure center. This is what makes it addictive just like any other drug.
God bless.
